History

The Queluz National Palace has loads of historical significance dating back to the 18th century. It was originally constructed as a summer retreat for Dom Pedro of Braganza, who later became King Pedro III of Portugal. The palace showcases the rococo style, known for its opulence and intricate designs, which was popular during that time.

Over the years, the Queluz National Palace played a part in various momentous occasions, including hosting royal weddings and diplomatic gatherings. During the early 19th century, the palace even served as the official residence for the royal family when they sought refuge from Napoleon’s invasion of Portugal. 

Architecture

The palace mixes rococo and neoclassical styles, reflecting the luxurious taste of the Portuguese monarchy. The outside is decorated with intricate carvings and huge windows, presenting a refined feel.

Rooms are lavishly decorated, each showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship of the era. The ballroom features breathtaking frescoes and elegant chandeliers, where royals hosted their parties.

Visiting Times & Tickets

The palace is open every day between 9 am and 6 pm. Palace and garden tickets cost 10. However, there are discounts available for young people (6-17 years) and seniors (over 65), as well as families with two adults and two kids.
